What is Urinary Incontinence?
In this post, we will review three different types of urinary incontinence (UI). UI is common in men and women and can happen at any point during our life due to a trauma, pregnancy, neurological disorder, weak muscles, poor coordination, or tight muscles. This is where a pelvic floor physical therapist can help determine the root cause and prescribe a customized treatment plan.
1. Urinary Stress Incontinence
Urinary Stress Incontinence is when when you experience bladder leakage with actions such as sneezing, coughing, or jumping. Even a few drops is considered stress incontinence.
2. Urge Urinary Incontinence
Urge Urinary Incontinence is the sudden strong sensation to go to the bathroom or you may lose control of your bladder. Our mind-body may learn triggers like everytime you walk in the front door.
3. Mixed Urinary Incontinence
Mixed Urinary Incontinence is experiencing symptoms of both stress and urge.
If you are experiencing leakage, I recommend seeing pelvic floor therapist! You will thank yourself in the long run!
